Vitiligo

Vitiligo is a disease that causes the loss of skin color in blotches. Vitiligo can affect the skin on any part of the body and may also affect hair color.

Vitiligo symptoms include patchy loss of skin color, premature whitening or graying of the hair on your scalp, eyelashes, eyebrows or beard, loss of color in the tissues inside your mouth and loss or change of color of the inner eye. Vitiligo can start at any age, but often appears before age 20. It is estimated to affect 0.5% to 2% of the population worldwide. Vitiligo affects men and women equally. There is one  approved treatment for vitiligo and other investigational treatments are being studied.
